The Emerging Plan
Public consultations have informed an emerging plan which is being developed under five themes. All references to Seend refer to the parish as a place and a community which includes Sells green and Seend Cleeve. Note: Click the paragraph title or an image to go to the policy page.
There is a clear housing need in our parish. Like most English rural settlements Seend has an ageing population, though Seend's population size has been stable for many years. There is clear new demand for affordable rural starter homes for young people and also a demand for alternative accommodation for the older sector of our community, who value what our vibrant communities have to offer for their 4th age, and have expressed desires to remain in the parish in housing that is sustainable and appropriate for their changing needs.
Younger parishioners, many born and raised here, can no longer afford to live in their natural abode in proximity to older family members. This has diminished our community resilience and has made the continuing operation of some of our great community assets uncertain.
Business and Employment
The Community Assets and amenities considered in the plan are:
Holy Cross Church, Seend Methodist Chapel, Seend C of E aided Primary School, Seend Women’s Institute Hall, Irene Usher Memorial Pavilion and associated recreational facilities, Seend Community Centre, the vehicle parking areas associated with these assets.
The Amenities considered in the plan are:
Seend Post Office and Shop, Seend Playgroup, Public Houses, Seend Shuttle (Community Bus)
Highways & Traffic
Consultation opportunity with the business community has been well publicised, though the number of received responses to the Steering Group’s carefully designed consultation questionnaire had generated minimal response by February 2017. Over 60 questionnaires were sent out; the response rate was just 17%.
The Parish has a surprising number of small businesses - many operated from residences. If you feel you want to make an additional contribution to the plan's Business section please do get in touch - there is still time to have your say.
Community Assets & Amenities
Highways and Traffic are major topics arising from public consultation, carried out by the Traffic Sub-Group, in the formulation of their published report. There are many issues that require work. Some have already been addressed in the short term, but medium to longer term issues must form part of the plan and be addressed through the Vision, Objective and Policies.
